How to check your information on data breaches
There is so much I learned over the past 4 years in Cybersecurity & an ethical hacker that I want to share.
The first thing is data breaches. I encourage everyone to visit https://haveibeenpwned.com this will tell you what data breaches includes your PII (personally identifiable information) i.e. dob, street address, phone number, email address, etc. It’s good to be aware of what PII has been leaked.
Do you remember that leak last year with 2.9B social security numbers were leaked from NPD (National Public Data)? Well, I obtained that data and wanted to analyze it myself. I felt like the headlines and stories were a bit false leading with the reporting. The reason there were 2.9B records is because each person had around 5–10 records because your information changed (new address, new phone number). Check to see if your social security number was part of this breach here https://npd.pentester.com.
The best way to protect yourself is to freeze your credit on all 3 credit bureaus (Transunion, Equifax, Experian).
Let me know if you have any questions!
